Faridkot,(Alexander D’Souza) -In a first for the historic city of Baba Sheikh Farid Ji, Faridkot is all set to host the State-Level Masters Badminton Tournament. The sporting extravaganza, organized by the District Badminton Association (DBA), will see veteran talent from across Punjab showcasing their prowess at the Farid Badminton Hall, Nehru Stadium, from February 6 to 9.
Ageless Competition
The tournament is designed to celebrate fitness and sportsmanship across generations. According to Advocate Lalit Mohan Gupta, Organizing Secretary and Vice-President of the Punjab Badminton Association (PBA), the event will feature male and female players in age brackets ranging from 35 to over 75 years.
“Our primary goal is to foster health awareness and reignite the passion for badminton among veterans. Age is just a number when it comes to the spirit of the game,” said Gupta while unveiling the official event banner.
A Star-Studded Guest List
The four-day event is expected to draw significant political and administrative presence. Key dignitaries slated to attend include:
S. Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer: MP and President, PBA.
S. Kultar Singh Sandhwan: Speaker, Punjab Legislative Assembly.
Dr. Baljit Kaur: Cabinet Minister.
S. Gurdit Singh Sekhon: MLA, Faridkot.
Poonam deep Kaur & Dr. Pragya Jain: DC and SSP Faridkot, respectively.
Adding an international touch, MLA Gurvinder Singh Brar from Calgary, Canada, attended the press briefing as a special guest. Recalling his roots, Brar shared, “I played on these very courts before moving to Canada. It is a moment of immense pride to see Faridkot hosting an event of this magnitude.”

The DBA has ensured high standards for the visiting athletes. Beyond the competition, players will be provided with:
Nutrition: Breakfast, lunch, and energy-boosting refreshments (banana shakes and coffee).
Mementoes: Every participant will receive a specialized T-shirt and a certificate of participation.

The deadline for registration is February 2, 2026. Local organizers from the Baba Farid Badminton Club have been urged to ensure seamless hospitality for shuttlers arriving from various districts.
