Demand raised to eliminate the requirement of separate permission in Chandigarh for arms license holders from Punjab,

Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan writes letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah;
-Advocates for changes in the Arms Act—
Faridkot/Chandigarh (Alexander D’Souza) -Punjab Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan has taken a significant step to address the administrative difficulties faced by the people of Punjab. Speaker Sandhwan has written a letter to Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, demanding that the Union Territory of Chandigarh be automatically included in the territorial jurisdiction of arms licenses issued to the people of Punjab.
Bureaucratic delays and difficulties will end:
In the letter to Shri Amit Shah, the Speaker explained that according to the current rules, people from Punjab have to obtain separate approval or ‘endorsement’ to carry their licensed weapons in Chandigarh. He said that this process is not only cumbersome but also leads to unnecessary bureaucratic delays, causing difficulties for ordinary citizens.
Chandigarh is the capital of Punjab, cooperation is necessary:
Sandhwan argued in his letter that since Chandigarh is the capital of Punjab and the state’s main administrative center, people from Punjab commute there daily. Many people reside in Chandigarh for government work or personal reasons. In such a situation, automatically recognizing Punjab licenses in Chandigarh would be a logical and practical step. He said, “I humbly request the Union Home Ministry to make the necessary changes in the rules of the Arms Act or issue new guidelines to the concerned authorities to simplify this process for the citizens.”
The letter expresses hope that if the central government accepts this proposal, thousands of Punjabi residents will get significant relief from the legal complications they face while possessing weapons in the capital.
